A lithophane is an ancient art of etched or molded imagery into very thin, translucent material that can only be seen clearly when back-lit with a light source. It is a design or scene in intaglio (an Italian form of print making) that appears "en grisaille" (in gray) tones. These are printed on a laser 3D printer using an acrylic resin that is very tough. These prints are not brittle and will not break if dropped, so you will be able to keep this 3D print forever.
Some people place their prints in a window as well, as any source of back-lighting will suffice to show the image contained in the print. They are magical little 3D prints.
All of our nighlights have a loop at the top and hang in front of the light source. This ensures that they will sit nice and straight in front of the light source.
We can turn any picture into a lithophane 3D print and we can even add new elements into the original photo. For instance, if you wanted to add a shooting star, lost relative or pet into a picture, we can make that happen. For these special circumstances please call us after you place your order so that we can ensure we meet your requirements.
*Note that the height may vary slightly to fit the aspect ratio of your original image so that we do not distort your image
