Image Alterations
To ensure the best possible results, we may make adjustments to your images to fit your selected size and optimize them for lenticular printing. The vast majority of customer-submitted images don’t naturally conform to standard print dimensions—this is completely normal. To accommodate this, we automatically resize and/or crop your images as needed.
In addition to sizing, we may make the following alterations:
-
Aligning Action Shots
If your images depict a sequence—such as someone swinging a bat—we will attempt to align the subject across frames. This helps minimize ghosting and creates a smoother, more seamless motion effect. To achieve this, we may scale individual frames, crop, or context-fill parts of the image.
-
Filling Extra Space
When an image doesn’t fill the selected size and cropping would remove important content, we may add background using content-aware techniques or leave white space as needed. It’s a natural limitation of fitting rectangular images into standardized formats.
-
Scaling for Small Formats
On smaller lenticulars like 2×3 or 2.5×3.5, we may enlarge subjects—especially people or pets—to ensure they’re clearly visible. If the subjects occupy only a small portion of the frame, we’ll zoom in appropriately. This is generally not necessary for larger formats.
-
Color Desaturation to Reduce Ghosting
Highly saturated colors can cause ghosting, where elements from one frame are faintly visible in another. To reduce this, we may tone down extreme saturation to improve image clarity and separation.
-
Highlight Reduction in Bright Areas
Ghosting can also occur when there’s a stark contrast between frames—such as a bright sky in one image and a dark object in the same location in another. We may reduce highlights in bright areas to help balance contrast and reduce this effect.
